ENGLAND TRIP : Day 6

We planned to go to Windsor Castle today but I had read to go in the afternoon because its not as busy, so we switched some things around on my itinerary. Trevor wanted to go to the Natural History Museum, so we decided to go there first thing in the morning. We took the bus that dropped us off right in front of the museum but I failed to check when it opened so we came half an hour before it opened. We walked down the street to Pret-A-Manger and got a sandwich and drink for breakfast.

When we first arrived at the museum there was only a father and daughter standing there, however, when we came back 20 minutes later there was a huge line! Trevor was not too happy about it. Luckily, it didn't take that long to actually get inside. There were so many kids on field trips, so it was pretty crowded from the beginning.

The Natural History Museum is filled with dead animals, bugs, and dinosaur bones. Maybe I'm not cultured or intelligent enough, but this was not a place I particularly enjoyed. Although, I must say the actual building was incredible! I kept thinking... "Am I being punk'd? I'm pretty sure this is Hogwarts." I mean... it wasn't terrible, there were some really cool and interesting things like the dinosaur bones, which a lot of them happened to come from Utah! Another reason I probably didn't enjoy this place was that I was feeling really sick and very weak. I finally had to tell Trevor that I'd meet him in the front when he was done looking because I just couldn't handle walking anymore. Which is funny because this day we walked 11 miles!

I was so tired/sick!

We made our way to the train station and took a train to Windsor! Luckily, I was feeling a lot better by now. I have no idea what was going on. We had to take two different trains to get there, but it was a pretty quick journey.

The day was absolutely beautiful. I should mention that we had excellent weather the entire time we were there! It was actually warmer there than where I live and I sometimes had to take off my jacket! So many people told us that we came at an excellent time because they were experiencing really good weather. Besides fog, we had clear weather every day except for when we literally took off, it started raining. A lot of people told me, "Oh it's just going to rain the entire time you're there!" but I always told them that if I didn't get to experience rain in England that I would be sad. So I was a little sad, but I still enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Windsor is a small little town with Windsor Castle towering over it. The train station in Windsor was so adorable! It had the cutest shops and cafes lining the walkway which opened up to the walls of the castle. Windsor Castle is where Queen Elizabeth II lives on the weekends, so I figured security would be tight. I wasn't, however, expecting airport-style security! I guess it makes sense, though. Ever since I saw Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get married here I knew I had to come! It looked so beautiful! They got married in May so I was nervous it wouldn't look as beautiful, but it did not disappoint.

We couldn't take pictures inside which was disappointing because this place was incredible! It was everything you'd expect from a castle; knights armor, huge portraits, and lots of weapons. We also went inside St. George's Chapel (a lovely reminder of my hometown!) which is where Harry and Meghan got married. Okay, yes, I pretended in my mind that I was getting married as I walked up the chapel. Wouldn't you?

As I was walking back down the middle of the chapel, I saw a huge marble slab on the ground and a name that looked familiar caught my attention. Jane Seymour. I kept reading and it said "Queen of Henry VIII". Woah!!! That was so crazy for me to see! So I keep reading down the slab and what do you know... it also says King Henry VIII. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. I was so so shocked. I wasn't prepared! There was a lady who works there standing next to it, so I asked her if this really is where he is buried and she told me it was! I knew he was buried in Windsor, but I guess I expected a huge shrine and effigy of him for where he was buried. Apparently, it was supposed to be temporary and that he was supposed to get an extravagant effigy and tomb but it didn't work out, I guess. It was so crazy to think the body of the famous King Henry VIII was just below me. Wow. (Click HERE, HERE, & HERE for virtual tours of St. George's Chapel. You can see the marble slab I was talking about if you look on the ground in the first one! It only works on a computer... Click HERE for a virtual tour of some of the rooms inside Windsor Castle.)

St. George's Chapel

Don't mind my head. What was Trevor thinking.. I just liked the way the castle looked.

After checking out the castle and the chapel we walked around the cute village of Windsor looking for food. One of Trevor's guests at work told him to try Pizza Express which is a chain restaurant in England. The food was mediocre. I wish we would have gone somewhere else. Trevor got a pizza that had arugula on it and out of nowhere he goes "Ohhhh my gosh." and I thought he was just messing around but then he looks absolutely shocked and grabs a fork and picks something out of his pizza. Thankfully, I had already eaten my pizza (I'm a fast eater, okay?) so Trevor puts something on my plate. It was a caterpillar! Oh my gosh, we were disgusted. Thank goodness they didn't make us pay for Trevor's pizza. Every time we saw a Pizza Express after that we'd yell (quietly) don't eat there, they'll serve you caterpillars! Haha!

Gag.

Then we walked around some more and I was able to finally go into a Cath Kidston store! I love Cath Kidston. It has classic vintage and British inspired prints. I always planned on getting a Cath Kidston bag whenever I went to England, but I had gotten one for my birthday this last year. It was so neat to actually go into the store. I got myself a phone case and a tote bag for my mom. Love it! Then we walked over to "The Long Walk" which is a super long straight road (I think it's about three miles long) and it runs into Windsor Castle. I remember watching Meghan driving on that road to her wedding and thinking it looked so cool and it made for a good picture.

Can you spot Trevor?

We were losing daylight so we walked back to the train station and took the train back to London. We hopped on the tube and made our way towards Abbey Road. We couldn't come to England and not go see some Beatles sights! We wanted to go to Liverpool and see The Cavern but there was just too much I wanted to see and I didn't really feel like spending hours on the train to go there. Next trip for sure!

Abbey Road is actually a pretty busy road! We made our way to the crosswalk where The Beatles took the well-known photo for their album Abbey Road. There were a few groups of people walking across trying to take pictures. Cars have to stop at that crosswalk if there are any pedestrians walking so I'm sure people hate driving there. I was embarrassed to take photos walking but I got one of Trevor and then Trevor talked me into walking across. I had to! I basically ran so my photo is super lame haha! It was crazy to stand where they stood! There is a small shop next to it and it was the fastest $100 we've ever spent. Sheesh.

"COME TO KOREA PLZ!!" I want to so bad!!!

We found a bus that took us to Westfield Mall. This mall was huge. I really wanted to stock back up on some Ordinary skincare products and London has some Deciem stores so I had to find one and Westfield Mall happened to have one and lots of other amazing stores! I got my skincare and got some Korean BB cream at Space NK. I also checked out Boots as well! I was absolutely craving Nando's and they had one there so we enjoyed a nice meal. I miss Nando's! My mouth literally waters whenever I think of it!

Look at my food vs. Trevor's 😂 I can out-eat Trevor any day! I really don't know how I'm not 400 lbs.

We made our way home and crashed. 11 miles of walking will do that to you! What an enjoyable day.
