Oh motherhood. I would be lying if I said that being a mother didn't change me. That sounds so dramatic, but it's definitely true. Little Emma is the best thing to ever happen to me and I am daily thanking Heavenly Father for her and for allowing me to be her mother. I feel so incredibly lucky and blessed! Although some may think I was crazy for having a baby at 21, I am so glad I did because I've always wanted to be a young mom.
From this amazing talk by Neil L. Andersen he said, "As we look into the eyes of a child, we see a fellow son or daughter of God who stood with us in the premortal life. It is a crowning privilege of a husband and wife who are able to bear children to provide mortal bodies for these spirit children of God. We believe in families, and we believe in children." I feel so blessed that Heavenly Father chose me to care for one of his beautiful children. I also get scared that he trusted me with such a precious child! I know through him I can raise her (and my future children) how he would want me to. Mark 9:37 : "Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me."
In Neil L. Andersen's talk he quoted a woman's blog about motherhood. It's a great article - read it here. Her name is Rachel Jankovic and she said, Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. You do not collect children because you find them cuter than stamps. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for." I absolutely love this quote.
I found this article of "One-Line Affirmations For Moms". My favorite is "I have been called to motherhood—the most powerful calling in the world." It is close to the above quote but I love it because it says it is the most "powerful" calling which I truly believe because mothers have such an impact on this world. I also love the "one-liner" that says "I may not be the perfect mother, but I am exactly the mother my children need." I hope to be a great mother to my children. Again, I feel so incredibly blessed to be chosen to be a mother and I am so grateful that it is my calling in life.
