Evelyn Rose Thompson
Born on 4/9/2017 at 7:26pm
7lbs 5oz - 20in long
On Wednesday I had my weekly checkup and everything was looking good so Dr. Chalmers asked if I wanted to get induced the following weekend! We said yes so he checked the schedule to see if we would be able to on Saturday but it was a full schedule so he put me on the list just in case someone went into labor early. He told us that if not on Saturday we would for sure be able to go in on Sunday!
Saturday rolled around and we waited for a phone call but we weren't expecting one. Although I was a nervous wreck all day! I don't know why but I think that I was more scared this time than I was with Emma! Maybe because I knew more of what to expect. I really worked myself up to be honest.
Dr. Chalmers told us the induction schedule ran on a 24 hour clock so they could call us at 3 in the morning on Sunday if there was an opening! Saturday night I tossed and turned and barely slept and kept dreaming that I slept through the phone call! I woke up at 9 pretty exhausted and hopped in the shower and got ready. We packed everything up in the car and went to my parent's house around 11:30. We were just hanging out when at 12 o'clock my phone rang from an unknown number and I started freaking out! I made Trevor answer the phone and they told us to come around 12:30 - 12:45! Ah! It was so cute the lady on the phone told Trevor that Dr. Chalmers said we couldn't come unless we brought our cute daughter with us! Emma just loves "Doctor" and he loves her!
Although I was so excited I immediately started crying. My emotions were overwhelming and all over the place. I was feeling excited, scared, intimidated, and emotional. My parents had taken a nap so I went and woke them up and my dad cooked us some waffles while I did my makeup through tears! So dramatic. Ha! We took a few quick photos with Emma and said goodbye to her which was super hard but not as bad as I thought it would be. Then Trevor and I headed towards the hospital! I felt a little more calm and it was the most beautiful day. The perfect day to have a baby!
We got to the Labor & Delivery around 12:45ish and they printed off our arm bands and assigned us our nurse and room. Our nurse was named Shelly and she was so awesome! She made me feel so comfortable and her energy definitely eased my tension. There were 3 things that I was nervous about: getting the IV, getting the epidural, and pushing the baby out.
After changing into my gown my nurse gave me my IV. She put it on top of my forearm which I've never had before but it was actually a really convenient place to have it. It wasn't in my way and I had free use of my hand which was super nice! Shortly after Chandis came! She came to take our pictures and be there for support! I was so glad she was there! Not too long after that my nurse started the Pitocin and the induction began! Dr. Chalmers came and broke my water after. That's a fun experience.. feeling like you're wetting yourself every few minutes. haha!
I told my nurse that I wanted to get it soon so they were prepared but that I wanted to wait just a little bit longer. She then comes back not too long after and says " So they're going to have to do an emergency C-section.." I literally felt the blood rush from my face and I thought.. What happened? What went wrong? However she wasn't finished with her sentence. "..so if you want to get your epidural soon you might want to get it now so that you won't have to wait for them to finish the c-section" or something along those lines. Trevor, Chandis, and I all let out a relieved breath and were like "Thank goodness!!" and then the nurse realized that she totally made it sound like I was supposed to be getting an emergency c-section and quickly apologized! Haha. That was an intense few seconds!
So the anesthesiologist (That took me forever to figure out to spell that..) came in and we explained what had happened last time and he definitely didn't validate my feelings and kind of made me feel like I was dumb for worrying about it because its not a rare thing to happen. I don't think he realized how traumatizing it was for me even if it's not a rare thing. They raised the bed super high and had me hunch over while I held onto Trevor and my nurse. The procedure lasted only a few minutes thankfully because I read that it takes like 20 minutes so I was freaking out. I know I have had one before but I completely forgot everything.. I definitely worked myself up for nothing. I think the idea of the procedure is definitely more scary than getting the actual procedure done. It didn't hurt too bad. More like a ton of pressure. I hate the electric shock through the legs though! It freaks me out! TMI but at that point my water was still coming out and I leaked alllll over Trevor's socks! hah!
After he was done I tried to not work myself up again and kept asking my nurse to check my blood pressure. My chest started hurting again and it got harder to breathe which was how it started last time so I was super nervous but my nurse came and held my hand and told me not to worry and that I would be okay and not to get myself worked up again. It made me feel a lot better and I tried my best to relax and thankfully the chest pain went away and I was able to breathe a lot better. Boy I sure do love that epidural though. Life was good after getting that! Except for the shaking! I was shaking so bad up until I delivered Evelyn! So we just hung out while Trevor and I finalized on baby sister's name! We thought of Evelyn the whole time but couldn't nail it in. We liked the middle name Rose too but still.. we couldn't nail it in either. So we decided then and there to just name her Evelyn Rose and it fits her so well. It's such a feminine name and we love it!
My parent's came shortly after with Emma and even though I had only said goodbye earlier that day it was so nice to see her again! Trevor and Chandis are extremely mean and went and got Cafe Rio and I had to sit there and smell it. I'll get them back somehow haha! Just kidding.. maybe. We all just hung out and enjoyed each other's company.
At this point I had been there for about 5 hours. Unfortunately my nurse's shift was over and she stayed for a minute taking Emma around the hospital to get food and talk to all the "doctors" (nurses). She was such a fun nurse! My new nurse was super sweet and I really liked her too! She had only been there a few minutes when she said she'd come back in an hour and check me. She was sitting there on the computer and I told her I was feeling some pain.. down there.. so she said she would just check me right then and when she was done checking she says "You're at a 9!" I was so shocked! I had only been there for like 5ish hours! This part is a little weird but I have to put it in because it was soooo funny! When she was checking me no one was paying attention to Emma and when she was done all we hear is " Ewwww mom that was disgusting!!" and we all turn to see that she is standing at the end of the bed watching everything! We laughed sooooo hard! She is the funniest little thing!
So around 7 o'clock I started feeling more pain so she checked me again and said I was at a 10 and that I was complete! What the crap! I was soooo shocked. I labored for 18 hours last time and it had only been 6 this time! So she went and called my doctor and he came and got everything prepared.
I just want to make a little shout out to Dr. Chalmers. He's seriously the coolest doctor I have ever met! (besides my brother!) He always makes me feel so comfortable and always validates my feelings and never makes me feel stupid for anything. He is so upbeat and hilarious and his energy was so awesome! My parent's and Chandis kept saying how awesome and funny he was. We all just love him!
My dad took Emma out to the waiting room and once everything was prepared and we were all in position they had me start pushing! Pushing was definitely a lot easier this time around since I kind of knew what to expect. I pushed for 3.5 contractions and little Evelyn was born! In between contractions Dr. Chalmers was making her hair into a mohawk! He is so dang funny! I cannot believe that I had pushed for under 10 minutes! I pushed for 2 hours last time! Everything went by soooo fast!
Seeing little Evelyn's face for the first time was so amazing! We couldn't believe how much she looked like Emma! (When Emma came out Trevor and I were like.. yikes! She looked a little odd haha! But she changed within the time she was born and to when they handed her to me and she was beautiful!) Her face and her head were just so perfect! I was so in love! They placed her on my chest and washed her off. My little girl was here! What a special moment. They took her and weighed and measured her and handed her back. We did skin to skin which I didn't get to do with Emma so it was so sweet to do it with her. I then breastfed her and she was able to latch on pretty well which surprised me!
The first thing I did was order some fooooood. I was so hungry! I ordered the oreo shake of course. Trevor kept telling everyone that the hospital's oreo shake was the only reason I got pregnant. That's only partly true.. ha! Chandis, Trevor, and I ate and relaxed. My epidural was starting to wear off. Such a weird feeling. It's almost like learning to walk again when you walk for the first time. Chandis took some more photos and then had to go back up to Cedar. She was seriously such a big help and I am obsessed with the photos she took! I'll treasure them forever! She definitely earned the title Auntie Chandis! Trevor and I just love her and really appreciated her being there.
After that I let Trevor sleep because you know.. having a baby is a lot of work.. ha! I stayed up until around 6 taking care of and nursing Evelyn. She was such an angel but I was just too nervous to sleep. They then took her to the nursery for a few hours while I slept although I had about 4 or 5 people (doctors, nurses, lactation consultants, etc) come in while I was trying to sleep! Around 9 they brought Evelyn back and I felt way better and somehow rested and I nursed her while the lactation consultant helped me. It was so scary.. while she happened to be there Evelyn kept choking on amniotic fluid coming back up! Thank heavens it was while she was there and holding her so she knew what to do. Freaked me out! Thankfully she hasn't done that since. We then went to the nursery so that Evelyn could have her first "bath"! She didn't not like it at all!
I changed into my robe and sort of made myself decent and my parent's came and brought Emma and my niece Payton and we had lunch. After they left I took a shower. Oh the first shower after giving birth feel so amazing! After getting tests done on Evelyn, getting some shots, and filling out paper work they let us be discharged! Its so weird. Evelyn wasn't even 24 hours old when we left! We stayed in the hospital for like 3 days with Emma so it was weird leaving so early. I was then wheeled out to my car! I think it's so funny that I had to be wheeled out. It was kind of embarrassing but I understand they have to do it. Then we were on our own! We have been staying with my parent's and they have been a ton of help! Also my nieces are here and they've been such a big help too and are always wanting to hold Evelyn! I really have appreciate all of their help!
We are just trying to adjust to being parents again! My mom has been taking Evelyn in the mornings which helps a ton! Evelyn is an angel and loves to eat! She has been such a good baby! I'm just trying to heal and thankfully its been a lot more easier this time! It's so weird. When I was pregnant with Evelyn I was constantly scared that she wasn't moving. Now I've caught myself freaking out because I realize I haven't felt her for along time and then I realize I'm not even pregnant anymore! Such a weird feeling! Unfortunately Trevor only had Monday off so he had to go back to work on Tuesday although he has all week off at Olive Garden. He has been my rock. I don't know how I could have done any of this without him! Emma feels so huge! Everyone told us that Emma would feel like a giant but we seriously can't get over how big she is! We're convinced she grew twice her size overnight! She is adjusting well. We have been trying to show her extra love. It helps that she has my parents and nieces to give her attention too.
I'm extremely grateful to my Heavenly Father! He seriously blessed me so much! I'm seriously in awe of how much he blessed me throughout all of this. Evelyn's birth was such an amazing experience! I just can't get over how fast and easy it was! Nothing like Emma's. Although both were amazing. I can't believe I have KIDS now! So crazy. I'm so excited to watch Emma and Evelyn's friendship grow. I hope they are best friends forever! I sure love those two and the little family of mine!
